This checklist contains two lists, the single speech sounds (phonemes) that English speaking children master and the more difficult clusters and blends that are used in English. It is designed to help parents and professionals record a child's early language
development and totarget teaching and therapy accordingly.
This checklist is designed to be a practical aid to help you to improve your child's speech. It is designed to enable you to keep a record of the speech sounds that your child can make and of his or her developing use of sounds in words. At first your child will be able to make these speech sounds on his or her own, in babble or when imitating speech sounds as a game. As he/she begins to try words, the sounds will be used in various positions in words. We suggest that you keep a record of progress as a guide for yourself and your speech and language therapist.
The Speech Sounds Checklist is one of a series of DSE checklists covering language and speech development. These include:
- Vocabulary 1 - First 120 words
- Vocabulary 2 - Second 340 words
- Vocabulary 3 - Third 350 words
